Uncle Ben

A celebration of the centenary of the birth of Benjamin Britten.

Performance: Britten Centenary Celebration Concert 26 January 2013 7.30pm at the Medieval Hall, Salisbury
thirteen paintings by Jane Mackay in response to Matthew Barley’s interpretation of Britten’s Cello Suite no 3. A professional artist and amateur musician, Jane Mackay has auditory-visual synaesthesia.
 in primary schools. Children learned Britten’s songs, heard his music from the inside out and devised their own songs. The project culminated in a performance on 25 January 2013.

In November 2012 Broomhill Bank and Oakley Schools were awarded a Big Lottery Awards for All grant to work in partnership to deliver a project based on the fairy tale opera, Rusalka. Working with La Folia and Life Wisdoms, a charity who support educational projects, the children created two new pieces of music theatre using their own stories.

Workshops to listen and respond to students’ responses to the myth of Rusalka, then magic it into a coherent piece of music theatre. January – February 2013
