Laura van der Heijden wins BBC Young Musician

Sussex cellist Laura van der Heijden – half-Dutch, half-Swiss – won the career-making BBC Young Musician of the Year final of 2012, held at The Sage, Gateshead on Sunday 13 May, with a truly spectacular performance of Walton’s cello concerto. This comes as wonderful news to La Folia, who gave Laura her Wiltshire debut with a performance in the Baroque Hall at Trafalgar Park, Downton, as part of La Folia’s first anniversary celebrations in 2011 (pictured below with Daphne Moody and Howard Moody).

Laura’s performance of Walton’s cello concerto was captivating from start to finish, full of natural musicality and very, very moving. We’re absolutely delightedfor Laura and look forward to hearing lots more from her in the coming years.
